Welcome to my website
I am Rebecca Dean and so far have written four Rebecca Dean novels. ENEMIES OF THE HEART is a saga spanning four decades in which an English/German family have their lives riven by divided loyalties, betrayals and forbidden passions, (and which was inspired by my own English/German family history). PALACE CIRCLE is also a saga. Beginning in Virginia in 1910, via the glamorous high society world of London in the 20’s and 30’s it contains real historical characters, plenty of scandal, and culminates in the spy-ridden, war-torn city of Cairo in 1943. THE GOLDEN PRINCE is also about real historical characters, this time King Edward VIII when, as a young Prince of Wales, he battled with his parents, King George V and Queen Mary to marry a girl who was not royal. Based on a little known true story in Edward’s life, the battle changed the history of the British Monarchy forever. My 4th Rebecca Dean novel, titled WALLIS in the UK and THE SHADOW QUEEN in the USA, is a novel about Wallis Simpson, the Duchess of Windsor, a woman who has long fascinated me.
Under the pseudonym Maggie Hudson I have written 4 gangland/crime novels. TELL ME NO SECRETS, NOWHERE TO RUN, FAST WOMEN and LOOKING FOR MR BIG. All my other novels, over 30 of them, are Margaret Pemberton novels. I have written in many different genres, but my favourites are the sagas: NEVER LEAVE ME, A MULTITUDE OF SINS, WHITE CHRISTMAS IN SAIGON, AN EMBARRASSMENT OF RICHES, ZADRUGA, A SEASON OF SECRETS, (time period 1912 - 1945) and my latest novel, BENEATH THE CYPRESS TREE, which is set on Crete and is to be published by Pan Macmillan March 23rd, (just in time for Mother's Day). My Margaret Pemberton website is: www.margaretpemberton.co.uk
It is such fun to be able to set books in places I love. I was born in Yorkshire and Yorkshire creeps into many of my novels. The Fenton family in A SEASON SECRETS are a North Yorkshire family. Ella, in BENEATH THE CYPRESS TREE, is a Yorkshire girl and a book I wrote some years ago is quite blatantly titled YORKSHIRE ROSE. (The main character is a Bradford lass by the name of Rose Sugden).
I have served as Chairman of the Romantic Novelists’ Association and served three times as a committee member of the Crime Writers’ Association.
Married and with five adult children and three grandchildren, I live in the small harbour town of Whitstable, in Kent. From my desk I have a glorious view of the sea and, at the end of a working day, enjoy long walks on the beach with my cocker spaniel, Bruno, and my Yorkshire terrier, Archie. I love to hear from my readers and so, if you would like to contact me, please do so.
